Life is a funny thing, full of highs, lows and different experiences.
What I’ve quickly realised is your reaction to all of these things is the most important part of it all. That’s what really dictates how you continue to move forward.
If you’ve read ‘The Birth of CFEN’ Then you’ll know the story of how the gym opened and started to grow. Like anyone I still had apprehensions about where it could go, vastly due to the fact that I knew absolutely nothing about running a business.
Fast forward 2 years and what an experience it has been.
Its been tough, rewarding, scary, but most importantly fun. For 3 years I’ve woken up and looked forward to getting after it and making ShireFit better!
As usual if I write a blog I’d like someone to take something away from it and I suppose this time I’d like you to realise you can do whatever you think you can achieve. The key is firstly believing (Even if its blindly like I did) and secondly taking the first step to doing it. That could be your promotion, getting married, starting a new career or getting that muscle up!
The sole aim of ShireFit is to help people.
That doesn’t just mean make someone into an elite athlete, in fact that doesn’t interest me at all. Its actually helping someone who just wants to get better. That also doesn’t mean its all about the training. For me I want someone to have fun, spend an hour a day not stressing about anything outside of ShireFit and give someone another support network from the daily stresses of life.
This has been the fire to continue to improve what we are doing. As you’ve probably seen we now have a great team of people who are all on the same journey as myself. I remember when I started to build the team with Ed, Ash, Josh and Dan. Suddenly realising that I had a much bigger responsibility than just myself. One thing I’m glad I did was take the plunge to bring them all into the team. They have all been fantastic and as we grow we are all learning together.
I’m learning how to grow a business and the team are learning how to coach, manage and support people.
In order to learn these things I had to initially take a step and go for it. Just try it and see what happened. If you truly want to do it then I think you’ll always find a way!
We will always look to take the step forward, even when we don’t know what is next because we have our goal and we ready to react and learn to whatever situation arises.
So whats next for us? Well as you’ve probably seen we are looking to take ShireFit into a new area and help another group of people. This is going to be an awesome challenge for the whole team and we will definitely hit some road blocks along the way! As well as this I have been spending loads of time working on developing the experience for everyone at East Northants. Things like shop items, new classes, easier ways to book in and better classes. We have now doubled the amount of classes we run each week compared to 2 years ago and I have more ideas that we can hopefully give to you all over the next year!
I’ve never managed multiple locations or split a business into different teams, or managed a big group of different personalities. The team have never managed a gym or ran one by themselves. But all of that doesn’t matter! We all have our plans and goals. We all want to help and influence more people and we will work our hardest to continue doing what we are doing and give you the best experience possible! The key is we are all willing to learn and work hard as we move forward.
So take the step towards your goals, have a go and see what happens.
Unfortunately we only have one life and one thing you definitely don’t want to do is look back and regret anything before its too late!
My one aim is to look back and see that I’ve helped as many people as possible. Whilst all giving them positivity and energy!
It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.
